.mkv h.264 on a mac,any compatible players

are there any players that will play these types of files without stutter.vlc cant really play them on my pc.and i think mplayer isnt that good ither.

wot software would you recommend to convert .mkv to wotever type of file that will play on a mac. the files are in hd so i would like to keep the hd crispness.

If you are playing these back while streaming, the fault is probably not with vlc, but with the download not keeping up with the play back.

Here is a good page for playing these files with several tips.
