Hi, i have a real quick questions about executable files, i vaguely remember reading that Macs do not open .exe files, is this true? because i have a CD burned from a PC with Freeware that has an Autorun script to start up when inserted, will it work on a mac?

an exe is an executable file that runs only under windows. so nope.

you could possibly dig into the folders of the disk without using the autorun. but is this a freeware disk for windows? if so, i'd guess that you won't be able to use any of it.

as an alternative, you might want to check out a place like versiontracker.com for lots of free and shareware.

I can bypass the Autorun by right clicking (PC obviously) and clicking open instead of autorun, but to start up the software, you need too doubleclick the EXE file called "MIV2Cdr" in the APPS folder..

right, but if it is a freeware cd, it should have folders containing the various apps. you should be able to browse it with finder and install the software on it directly without the interface.

the issue is, if it is a freeware cd that has an .exe to run it, i'd imagine it's for windows, right? if that's the case, i'm guessing all of those programs are going to be windows programs. did this come from a "windows" magazine?

It is not an installer exe, it is the program exe, and it is not from a magazine at all, it was burned for my dad. and i have to display it on a mac..

were these actual mac applications it was supposed to install?

No, it is just some program that views MRIs, i could upload to megaupload or something and see if you can view it if you don't mind..

i'm not sure anyone is going to download unknown software.

do you have a mac or pc?
if you have a pc does it run on it?
does the program/app have an exe or app extension?
what is the name of the program?

only PC
runs on PC
The program uses an exe to start up
it is some weird Program called, MIV2Cdr

then it will not run on a mac.

unless of course he has parallels or bootcamp, or possibly an emulator.
