can anyone recommend a good design software for remodelling our home?
I can do all the work, if I can find software that allows us to do the 3d modelling and also show the materials list......trusses, etc.

The building information modelling guys here at csu chico us ArchiCAD 10. About maybe 20% of the construction industry use it.

For 'dumb' models, google sketchup might work for interior re-modelling.
