Picture Viewing Program

Was wondering if there's any small mac picture viewing utilities out there that let you scroll through all picture files in the directory you're in. I just recently switched from pc and while i am enjoying the mac experience I miss the not being able to scroll through pictures a la windows picture previewing program (I can't remember what it's called at the moment). I don't want to use iphoto beacuse it keeps modifying my files.
