So a lot of people seem to think this is probably the greatest MAC P2P file sharing program. But it doesn't really seem to work for me.. It searches for the files, finds them, and then when I try to download files it always says "no active sources" and won't download anything, even though the search for the file originally states that 92 users have the file?

Am I doing something wrong? Does it need to be registered to download? My internet connection is fine btw. Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. I don't want to get into trouble again (haha), so no replies about any illegal file sharing please.

Actually I used that program and found it not to be that great. I never really got it to work that well. And when I did, it was slow and horrible. I recommend one of these alternatives:

http://www.eskimo.com/~pristine/p2p.html
From that site these are the apps that strike me as the best ones. But it's all up to your personal taste and what network you need to use.

Poisoned
Transmission
Limewire
amule
soulseeX (ssX)

I use LimeWire and Acquisition. I've found things on Acquisition that I couldn't find on LimeWire and vice versa. As far as which one is better... well depends on the time they're used. Sometimes, LimeWire gets a lot more hits that Acquisition. Other times, Acquisition over LimeWire.

LimeWire is free without having to deal with that annoying popup that Acquisition has, but get both.

Thanks!

Try a different p2p application for "legal downloads"
Or you could try and change the port it uses and enable port forwarding if you use a router
Hope this helps

Torrents are p2p because you are downloading off other people who are your peers :black:
The only legal torrents i can think of are those of linux iso images

woah, i can't believe this forum didn't get locked..... on most forums i've visited, members go awol on others when they start talking about p2p and bitorrent..... more on topic, limewire is probably the greatest p2p client of all time, but it is pretty demanding of your system..... same with azureus, but i use them both anyway because of their features and nice interface

is there any problem with computer security when Limewire or Acquisition is used? My understanding is that there are scrupulous applications that go with P2P downloads.

not with macs, just pc's generally
however it is a potential security risk...
Just act with some precaution and be carefull to make sure you set your share folder up correctly

Just dont share any details such as credit card details forms etc
and dont share anything illegal such as copyrighted music.

ALso selcect manually the files you want to share and do not let the program scan your pc for files.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that mikeyman. Could you please tell me how to set up the shared folder in Mac? I tried to find it but can't find it. It is probably just under my nose. Just don't know where to look really. ;-)
