How can you select (or copy) text from a PDF file when using Preview?

not on my mac now, but in acrobat on windows, there's a "select" button that can be used. click it and then you should be able to select and copy text.

Preview also has this capability. Just click on the button with the "A" on it in the tools section.

It may not work if your pdf was originally made from an image file.
