Better is an opinion so its hard to say if there is a better option than quicktime. some other programs you could try would be vlc or flip4mac. you can find both at www.versiontracker.com

I got flip4,mac after one of the folks here recommended it. I think it's great as it'll play both .avi and .wmv files...pretty sweet and it's FREE.
