If you have Tiger, you could do a Spotlight search for the name of the program and clean out any orphaned files you find.
On an older OS, you could simply look in your User Library folder, under Preferences and look for files there manually. I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can. They're - Their - There | Two - Too - To | You're - Your | MAC - Mac I was on the M-F honor roll for October, 2006.
