Need an alternative to NeoOffice because it's a big fat fatty (in memory)

I downloaded NeoOffice because I need a decent spreadsheet program. I have a new Macbook 2.0Ghz with 512 memory. So memory usage is important to me and NeoOffice sucks it down. Is there another alternative that would perform better for me?

Well, there is always MS Excel, but it's not free...

There is one other EXCELLENT alternative. You need to have Apple's X11 installed first. If it is not on your install CDs, it is available off of their web site. With that out of the way, go find yourself gnumeric. This wonderful, and wonderfully fast, spreadsheet is a 95% emulation of Excel. In my experience with it, it is pretty much a dead ringer, unless you are doing some really wild things. However, it is an open source, originally Linux, program, and so it runs under X11, hence the need for Apple's X11 to be up and running.

Oh and while you are at it, get Abiword as a replacement for MS-Word. Also remarkably light and fast, and there is even a non X11 version of it. I have both versions loaded on my Mac, just for fun.

My Macs: PowerMac G5 Quad, 2.5 GHz, 4 Core, Mac Pro, 3.2 GHz 8 Core, Power Macintosh 7500/100
My iStuff: 32 GB iPhone 4, 30 GB iPod Video, 16 GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS 8.6, openSUSE 10.3, Win XP

I'm a longtime linux guy so I've used gnumeric before but I didn't realize it was available for Mac. I'll check that out. Honestly I don't even mind paying for something as long as it performs well.

The ThinkFree Office's Spreadsheet isn't bad either, far cheaper than Excel but a bit lighter than NeoOffice. I have and use both on my iBook without a problem. I Gig ram helps :flower:
