You can convert the song into an AIFF, then import it into Garageband, chop to your heart's content, then export back into iTunes. Easy peasy.

To convert a song into an AIFF:

Open iTunes.
Click "iTunes" in the menu bar and go down to "Preferences", click it.
Go to the "Advanced" gear tab and select "Importing".
Choose AIFF from the dropdown.
Now Right (ctrl) click the song you want converted and choose "Convert selection..."

Now you can drag that AIFF to the desktop and open it with Garageband.

I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can.

GargageBand will let you clip out sections of a song. Just import the file into the app and clip away!

Or, if you want an actual audio editor there are a couple out there. One is a free one called Audacity, or if you don't mind paying $30, there is a fairly good editor called Amadeus II which has lots of good features and is quite easy to use. I use it a lot in producing my podcast.

You don't even have to convert it to AIFF. You can just open GarageBand, make a new track, and drag and drop the .mp3 file onto the track.
