I recall recent seeing a link (either here on M-F or elsewhere) for a free online storage account that mounts under OS X just like another drive. I had intended to click the link to check it out after I finished what I was working on, but I forgot and can no longer locate the link or the website. Does anyone know the site that I'm referring to? I believe it was 2GB of free storage, and as I stated, it supposedly mounted on the desktop like a standard drive. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, box.net sounded interesting so I went there and had a look. Flakey is how I would describe it.
I signed up and created an account. Then I decided to create a folder and upload a file. The first upload failed quietly - it went through the whole upload process but the file wasn't there when it finished. I repeated it and this time it worked. I tried to move back to my "home" folder by clicking the MyBox label, but appear to have been placed in someone else's MyBox! Lots of files there, none of them mine, and the folder I had just created and the file I just uploaded? No where to be seen. I moved to another tab and then clicked MyBox again. This time I landed back in my intended home folder and could see my one folder and file again. Soooo... in this brief 5 minute or so test, I had several failures and a truly amazing security breach, where I ended up in someone else's files. They could just as easily be ending up in mine! Verdict? Not ready for prime time. My Macs: PowerMac G5 Quad, 2.5 GHz, 4 Core, Mac Pro, 3.2 GHz 8 Core, Power Macintosh 7500/100 My iStuff: 32 GB iPhone 4, 30 GB iPod Video, 16 GB iPod Touch My OS': Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS 8.6, openSUSE 10.3, Win XP I was on the Mac-Forums honor roll for September 2007 |
