I downloaded a photo editing program that my lady needs. When I installed it it said that X11 is needed. I found this and downloaded it, but upon install it said that a newer version of if already was on my Power Book. What is X11? How can I get the photo editor (Gimp) to recognize it?

X11 is an optional install from your install discs.
The Tiger discs have a newer version than the one you can download from Apple.
Try spotlight to find it on your computer, should be > Applications > Utilities
You could put in your 1st install disc and install X11 from the optional install if you can't find it.
Plenty of info about X11 on Apple's site:
Best.~ 13" MacBook Air. OSX 10.9 ~ iPad 2 & iPhone ~
