HTML Editor with no experience

I don't know HTML, but I'd like to be able to do basic HTML tasks.

Is there any application out there that allows you to type in text and it becomes html?

Yes, but there are other things I want to do with HTML that require an editor.

Any plain text editor will work since that's all HTML is - plain text. There are a few free code editors that might work for you including Atom and TextMate.
