I've installed the Safari upgrade, thinking I'd wait a little while for Mavericks...

As it turned out, now Safari isn't working. It opens on the Top Site page (not my usual homepage) and I get a spinning ball. Internet connection is fine with other apps.

Anyone else had a problem?

The reason I wanted to hold off on Mavericks was that I hadn't done a backup of my new computer but thought Safari would be safe enough.

How do I uninstall Safari and re-install it?

Cheers

Definitely seems to be a problem with 6.1. It loads but each page takes an age as the blue indicator line moves very slowly left to right. Well pleased that I use Firefox and Google mainly.

Happiness is not getting what you want, but wanting what you get.

I had GLIMS installed and I'm reading that this may be part of the problem.

I have tried other Browsers but like Safari best.

I might just back up my computer as it is then install Mavericks!

Is it possible to uninstall Safari?

What about all my GLIMS settings? Can they be saved (are they saved somewhere?)

You can't uninstall Safari as it is part of the OS X.8 operating system. Mavericks updates Safari to version 7.0.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
