The Problem:

I own a MacBook Pro and a Samsung Galaxy Note II. I have several meetings next week and I would like to be able to add the start time (e.g. 10 A.M.) to my MacBook and receive an alert on my phone and computer a few minutes before the event starts.

Please let me know your solutions! Thanks!

Use an online sync service. Both OS X and your Note II will support Google's sync service so I'd go with that. Here are instructions for syncing with iCal and go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account on your Android device (it becomes obvious after this point).

For anyone who has downloaded Mavericks, this sync no longer works with iCal 7. You have to use iCloud.

Syncmate, which I did use, is also not compatible with Mavericks: SyncMate Team blog

Google Calendar works just fine with Calendar. I use it here without fault. Now, the steps may have changed. In Mavericks, go to Calendar > Accounts. It should be straightforward from there.
