I have installed Office for mac and msn messenger - however, I went to update msn messenger, dragged the old one to the bin and tried to install the updated version, when I try and empty the trash I get the following errors:

1 - The operation cannot be completed because the item "MSN Messenger Daemon.rsrc" is in use

2 - The operation cannot be completed because the item "MSN Messenger Daemon" is in use

3 - The operation cannot be completed because the item "Alerts Daemon.rsrc" is in use

4 - The operation cannot be completed because the item "Alerts Daemon" is in use

5 - The operation cannot be completed because the item "Localized.rsrc" is in use

Is there any way of cleaning these up?

maybe try a restart and then repair permissions

Can't help you with your problem, but just wondering if you've seenAdium ? Unless you need MSN Messenger fo voice/video chat, then you should give Adium a quick try, it has a very nice interface, especially if you have a play with the preferences!

i used msn, adium but i found that i couldnt webcam, so now i use aMSN

it is much better and supports webcam! :mac:

Does anyone know what the "The operation cannot be completed because the item "Alerts Daemon" is in use" problem is?

I am trying to update MSN Messenger and am receiving this error message?

That is the process that lets you know when you have new messages, etc.

You can try re-booting or stopping the process in Activity Monitor if it continues to run after you close the app.
