Microsoft Office - Open Office Mac Compatability

Hey guys I have a question of the conversion of files from Microsoft Office to Open Office the one that comes with the mac's. Say I email a word document from a PC at school and i try and open it on a Mac will it be converted to an Open Office application or will it be unviewable.

You could open it with Apple works but I'm not sure about Open Office.

If it is a Word file Open Office will open it as such. After that you are free
to then save it in any format it does, including .doc

ok perfect thx alot cause i was worried that it wouldnt work, cause most pc's use word so say im at school or a friend and emial myself a document I want to be able to view it on a mac.
