So i recently purchased a powerbook (1.33ghz PowerPC G4) with Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Tiger) and i've been playing around with it installing programs that i have etc.
But something weird has begun to happen. Everytime i double click to install a pkg file it gives me some weird *** error.
There is no default application specified to open the document "Quicktime.pkg"

Can anybody help me with this, it will be much appreciated.

I have a brand new iMac G5 and I clicked on a bunch of PKG files and they brought up the installer. Where are these files from? OSX CD or somewhere else? You can see what is inside the package file by Control Clicking (or right clicking) on them and select "Show Package Contents" and you can browse the file.

Someone on another forum was having this issue with 10.3.9 Panther and was told to use Pacifist which is usually used to open installer PKG files off the OSX CD, but he said it worked. I don't know what is up as they all work here.

Let me know if this helps. They should open the installer.

well i can right click on it and view the package content but i can't open it with the installer. Everytime i try and open it it gives me that error and wants me to choose a program to open the pkg file with. when i ctrl click on it, i go open with, the option i have is choose...
so i don't know what's up. how do i choose to open the pkg file with the installer

All I can coment on are the PKG files on the Tiger DVD and all of them work for me. Try going to Version Tracker and grabbing Pacifist. Here is a link.

Like I said in my other message, a person had your problem and they opened and installed with Pacifist.

Open Spotlight (the blue circle with magnifying glass in the bar next to the clock) and put in PKG and try opening one of those Package files that are on the Hard drive. If they bring up the installer, you are fine. If not let me know and I will figure out how to get that back for you.
