Mac Specs: 15" Powerbook, 1.67GHz, 100GB HD, 1GB RAM, 128MB Video. 20GB iPod. 512MB iPod Shuffle. 80GB ipod

I want to my dvd's onto my computer but it rips the video ts files. it takes up too much space, how do i convert the files to avi?
oh yeah, i'm told this is legal because i own the dvd's and i dont plan on sharing them.
