I have been using MS office for many years on a variety of Macs. I currently use Office 2011 on a MPB OS 10.6.8.
Very recently a problem arose. I am unable to open any of the Excel files that I have created whether under Office 2011 or Office 2004.
None of these files have been imported from a PC or from another source.
I have tried opening files under both versions of Excel but with no effect.

The message I get is:
"The file may be read only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on is not responding."

These files were not saved as 'read-only' and since the files are stored on the MPB that I am currently using the 'not responding' doesn't apply.

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.
QUOTE Thanks

Is it happening with all Excel files or just selected ones? Right click on one of the files that are refusing to open and select "get info". Check the permissions on the file. Is it showing up as read only?
