Hello,
I am running OS 10.6.8 on an iMac. The hard drive is constantly crunching away. I ran Norton AV ( I know- not supposed to... but I do.) which shows no threats.
I turned on the firewall (always ASSumed it was on!) and the hard drive went silent almost immediately.

So how do I check for, identify & delete trojans or any other bugger on this machine?

Thanks for any help!
Chris

Firewall off is the default setting.

Get rid of Nortons and as far as the crunching goes, keep an eye on SMART Verified status within Disk Utility. If you feel you must run antivirus software, and as you know most of us here do not, download ClamXAV.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
