I have iPhoto '09 v.8.1.2 on OS 10.6.8. I have found that it crashes consistently when I try to reorder photos in a Slideshow. I can't find an update for this version, so does this mean I have to upgrade to iPhoto '11 - which I assume I will have to pay for?

Yes, but the good news is that it will cost you $15 via the Mac App Store. So a pretty cheap fix.

Before you do that, however, why not try this if you haven't already:

Launch iPhoto holding down the command and option buttons, which will bring up a repair dialog. Check everything on the list and let iPhoto do its thing for a while. Just for good measure, restart the Mac after that. See if that fixes the problem.

Hi Chas,

Thanks for the advice - I was unaware of the rebuild feature before. I've tried it but reordering photos in a Slideshow still fails.

A good workround seems to be to create an Album instead. It's easier to reorder photos in an Album screen than a Slideshow particularly if there are a lot of pictures because you get a 2D display of thumbnails to play with, whereas Slideshow thumbnails are presented as a row. Then you can run a 'temporary' slideshow on the Album which works just fine.

Cheers
