Hi I keep getting a popup from firefox telling me its time to upgrade to 10.2 from 10.1, I click yes and then a box appears where it says it is attempting to contact the update server. And thats it, this screen never changes and lasts forever. It isnt frozen as the status bar is still moving.

Is this a firefox issue or some setting I have wrong?

Go to Firefox's website and do it manually (download the newest version and install it over your current one). It's possible that something is wrong with Mozilla's update server right now.

Just getting the new version direct for Mozilla and installing over the top of the existing version won't destroy your settings etc. But you can always export your bookmarks first if you're worried.

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup

It's been a while since you've last tried it - why not just use the automatic updater found in the about dialog? It'll be quicker and safer (although installing manually is pretty safe).
