App For Events In My Kitchen

I have a television in our kitchen. I was wondering what apps is there available to hook up my mbp to it, so it can display ical (upcoming family events, month in advance), current music playing (with artwork), maybe a scrolling messsage, weather, etc.

Obviously, I'm aware I can just hook up a HDMI, but I was hoping there's an app with a nice interface.

It doesn't have to be exactly like above, but enough where the whole family knows what's going on each morning. Kinda similar to what they have in some doctors offices, schools, starbucks, and airports.
