Limiting internet connection speed?

Hi, I share a connection with others in my house, and sometimes i'm downloading files, updates etc, I don't want to be a hog, is there a program I can get that will let me control my Mac's speed to the web? I need to dial it down to ~500KB/s

Slow it down? Unusual.

Perhaps a 802.11G router will do the trick? Or offer to pay more for your share?

A lot of apps can do this through software, there must be an app that can do it system-wide?

I don't like constantly throttling the connection, you know, in case I want to play on Xbox live while I keep something downloading steadily in the background.

Can't be that unusual :p
