Why so long to encode movies to mpg?

Hi!

I'm running os10.5 on a G4. Unfortunately, I've got PowerPC and so can't use the newer DVD Ripping software.

I'm trying convert movies to mpg, but it seems to take forever and ever.

Can anyone tell me why this might be and how I can get around it?

Also, can anyone recommend a good freeware DVD Ripper that is supported by PowerPC?!!

Did you miss this Sticky notice regarding ripping DVDs? I suggest you read it.
