In my opinion, there isn't one. Reading eBooks isn't (to me) so much of a function of the eReader software as it is the hardware. Any of the dedicated eReaders, Kindle, iPad, Nook, (even the iPhone and iPod Touch) give a far superior experience in reading.
Having said all of that, the best desktop readers in my opinion (and it is only my personal opinion) are Kindle for Mac and Stanza in that order.

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

i'd agree with those two... and in that order.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.

thanks for that, I downloaded kindle. Looks great

Do you know how can I add my books in it? the only way I can see right now is through buying them from amazon, though how about the books I already have?

Thanks for the advice

Use Calibre (free download) to convert to AZW (MobiPocket) format. Don't remember how to introduce them to the Kindle reader as it has been a while, but I do remember it as being fairly easy.
