Trying to transfer a user account from my iMac to a new MacBook...both running identical (updated) versions of Snow Leopard. No matter what connection method is used - wired through router, direct connect ethernet (tried both standard and crossover cables) or wireless - source machine always times out stating that "the target machine has stopped responding".

Target machine provides a valid transfer code...source machine initially recognizes target machine by name and accepts the code. Then, a progress bar appears, nothing happens for about three minutes, then the error.

Same thing, every time, 100% repeatable.

Use Time Machine to migrate from your iMac to the MacBook. It's very easy and works every time. All you need is an external hard drive and Time Machine.

Thanks...that got it working. Had to dig up a USB cord, since the MB does not have Firewire, but it's chugging away now.
