I just moved my music over to my new MBP i7 15". Another forum member suggested I just put the iTunes folder from my old PC in the music folder within my logon name. I did that, but when i went to go sync it says I will lose all my apps and my movies since they are not on this laptop. Same for my ringtones.

Is there a fix for any of this. I have the movies on another computer and prob on my ext HD that I made from the second HD of my PC that had my data on it. My primary HD with the OS died.

I'm holding off syncing. I'd lose 2.2gigs of movies, my ringtones ( where do thay go on a mac) and all my apps.

any help is appreciated.

thanks,

Harris

The APPs are no problem. As long as you sign in with your Apple ID the APPs will show as purchased and you can download them. For that matter, you can download them for free from your Mac in iTunes and you shouldn't have that conflict.
The movies, if you have them on the old HD you can drag them into iTunes.
As to the ringtones, pretty sure there are ways around the problem, but I don't know them. Sorry!

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

I downloaded the apps. Where in itunes do you drag movies? Do I just load them on an ext hd and put on desktop in a folder then look with iTunes. It has been a while since I put any in.

Okay, I see the toolbar at top. Its not attached to the program like in PC, it hit me a bit late. I imported movies.

Now for ringtones, anyone have some input?

Well so far I have all my music and movies. I had to download all my apps to itunes but I guess I'll lose my settings that were on the iphone and start anew.

What about ringtones? How do I import them? Is it just a music file that goes in with all the others? Is it that simple? I cant sync till I get this straight or I'll lose them. I have a folder with them all on my desktop.

Does the iphone have to be connected for this?

All you need to do is authorise that computer from the iTunes menu and you should be able to sync without losing anything, providing you copied everything over folder-to-folder

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup

I actually moved my itunes folder over from the pc to the mac, first taking out the mac itunes folder onto the desktop and renaming it. The mac version of itunes folder had different subfolders like movies and other things.

When I started itunes and showed it the folder much music was in 3x. had to delete copies to go from 10 t0 8 gb of music.

When I went to sync it had a message about losing ringtones. Are ringtones in another area?

I believe orig they were in itunes music folder...

thanks, but been at work all day.

Reinstalled apps on Mac, but will prob lose settings for the apps on the iphone when I sync. Was grandfathered in with shazam for finding out names of songs... :-(

As for ringtones, where do I put the ones I made? Do I just import them to itunes as I would music and it knows they are ringtones?

Wish I could help on that, but I haver never used custom ringtones. If I had to guess, I would say you are probably correct.

EDIT: Did you try the suggestion to authorize your Mac through iTunes Store >Account Settings before trying the Sync? I'm thinking you must have since you say you Re downloaded the APPs. If not, I would agree it's a good idea.
