Itunes doesnt show flow views??

Hi all, new to this site although i have had a mac for some time.

problem : i have just connected my iphone to itunes and the only view available is the list view?? the flow and cover views are greyed out..... this is the same now for my nano?? it works fine with the itunes library?

has anyone else experienced this? any fixes or ideas
