For Firefox you can get GreaseMonkey/ and YouTube Video Download for Greasemonkey

Safari, Download YouTube videos to your Mac
or this which may/may not work YouTubeDownloader.safariextz

The Firefox one is the one I use and never have had problems with it.

This extension works well. It puts a download button in the YouTube page:

I used to do that, it works just fine.

But adding the download button to Safari is SO much easier. If you download much, that is.

The best anti virus for the Mac is common sense.

    6 years now no viruses.

There are a few cases of trojans and spyware that can infect the Mac, however following common sense browsing will prevent them. For example, don’t download software or other files unless you’re sure the source is reliable.

Also, never enter your admin password if prompted unless you’re absolutely sure why you’re being asked to do so!

    And may I add,

Never open anything in your downloads folder that you can't remember downloading.

If using Safari, uncheck "Open Safe files after downloading"
