Soon I will have a apple laptop (I believe macbook) I have an imac at home where I have aperture installed and various other things. Is it possible I can remote in from my laptop and do say photo editing remotely?

Yes you can, there are several methods to do it. Logmein and VNC are two ways to do it. Just be warned that depending on your internet speed, it may be sluggish.
