I think that you will have to change them all to scale effect, I do not think you can change only one app to do a scale effect rather than Genie.
Go to System Preferences > Dock you will find Minimize windows using : "Change it to what you wish" I would take a bomb, but I can’t stand the noise. Macbook7,1 13" 2.4GHz Core2Duo 10.7.2 2GB DDR3 RAM 250GB HD. iPhone 3GS 32GB iOS5. iPod 3G 32GB iOS5 |

Why does this happen when the scale effect has been selected in the Dock preferences window? Makes no sense. Microsoft for Mac programs must not conform to this so-called "universal" change for minimizing windows within the Mac. That's why I've tried to change the effect within Excel and Word itself, but I couldn't find a scale effect option within this software. |

Could you try to change it to Genie, minimize Excel and then change it back to scale I do not know if this will work but you can try it
