I would like to adjust the Formatting Palette in Microsoft Excel so that it opens and closes with the "scale effect" instead of the default "genie effect."

Thanks for any tips on how to do this.
I have Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac.

I think that you will have to change them all to scale effect, I do not think you can change only one app to do a scale effect rather than Genie.
Go to System Preferences > Dock you will find Minimize windows using : "Change it to what you wish"

I would take a bomb, but I can’t stand the noise.

My Dock preferences are already set to the "scale effect," but the Formatting Palette for Excel and Word "still" open and close with the genie effect.

Why does this happen when the scale effect has been selected in the Dock preferences window?

Makes no sense.

Microsoft for Mac programs must not conform to this so-called "universal" change for minimizing windows within the Mac. That's why I've tried to change the effect within Excel and Word itself, but I couldn't find a scale effect option within this software.

Could you try to change it to Genie, minimize Excel and then change it back to scale I do not know if this will work but you can try it
