I lost my safari icon after downloading updates and I can't get it back, please help.

Welcome to the forums ...

You lost the Safari icon where ? On the dock or in the Application folder ?
If Safari.app is still visible in the Applications folder, just drag it back to the dock, to the left of the separator ( which is near the right end of the dock )

if you have lost it in the Applications folder then it is most probably deleted. If it is just some sort of glitch though, open Terminal located in Applications > Utilities, then type in "open -a Safari"
when it appears in the dock, right click it and select keep in dock.

Assuming you have the latest version of OS X ( 10.6 ) you can download Safari here
Safari 5.0.4

If you have another version of OS X, have a look at Apple's download site.

When I attempted to use your the link you provided this icon of a piece of paper, pen, ruler and pencil starts bouncing, and when I hover over it it says it is safari.
