i'm a new mac user and i'm wondering if there is anything like peerblock for mac?

if you're not aware what peerblock does, it's a program that blocks other people from viewing or monitoring your system. peerblock for windows works very well. i recently had the US Department of Defence blocked while i was searching for some videos of egypt for a course project...lol

anyways! any help on the subject would be greatly apperciated

If you're referring to programs such as PeerGuardian for Windows, they don't do exactly what you think they may do. They are known to block IP's that may in fact speed up your downloads, and in some cases may even block their own IP's. The program's visual build may give you the illusion that it may be hard at work, blocking many IP's that could be potentially harmful, when essentially the only factor that may be putting you at a real risk is how new the current build is of whatever bit-torrent client it is that you're using. The newer the build = the easier it is to get a hold of you.

You can torrent stuff, but do so at your own discretion. I've gotten a warning from my ISP once before, but I've continued to use bit-torrent clients for a few years, and haven't gotten myself into anything serious. It's not as bad as it's made out to be. The main problem is more-so the people sharing and uploading content, since it's because of them that the internet is infected with unauthorized copies of games, movies, and music.
