Looks to me like you can't get the Apps store without 10.6.6. My desktop is still running 10.5.8. Has anyone seen anything different?

Someone else posted this in the Apps Store thread

Do I have to purchase the 10.6.6 version of Mac OS X 10.6.6? Why is it not in my Software Updates?

I support the idea of paying for Mac Apps, but I can't imagine why I would have to pay for 10.6.

Thanks for any help.

Not really the same question. I want to know if the MAS is available for Leopard users (my guess is no). I'd be happy to update to 10.6 bit since it's a PPC machine I really can't...

Not only must it be Snow Leopard, but must be version 10.6.6 minimum.

For those still on Leopard, I'd highly recommend Bodega.
Has a lot of apps for sale there and has been doing what the App Store is offering for awhile now.
Keeps track of purchase codes for apps purchased thru them.
Goes through your entire Applications folder to keep track of your previously installed apps to find updates for them. This is where the App Store needs to go, or there is still a place for Bodega on your system.

I have not bought anything direct through this. I primarily use it for it's auto updating feature of all my apps. It's a great tool for that, especially for those like my wife that never goes and checks for updates on anything.

Download and one ready to install pic:

This is probably only the first thing where Apple has now forsaken those still using a PPC Mac (well, aside from 10.6). Bad for those with a PPC, but good for the developers as they only have to contend with one architecture any longer.

And there's really not a good reason I know of for those on Intel machines not to have upgraded to 10.6 at it's price point.

I haven't visited the new MAS (haven't upgraded to 10.6.6 yet)...but I wonder how much content (what percent) the MAS has for 10.5 (and older) users. Maybe most of the apps. require 10.6 anyway...so even if a 10.5 user could access the MAS...there may not be much there.

I figured as much from some searching. I upgraded my Macbook so I do have some access to the MAS just not on my desktop.

And Bob, I've been using the 64 bit HB (0.9.4) on my MB anyhow, just updated to 0.9.5 the other day. I knew they had dropped PPC support as well.
