Matter of opinion. AppTrap is FREEWARE!

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

    I like CleanApp not free.

edit to add after thinking about it:

Can't say as I recommend this one to a newb or someone not familiar with the files and structure on their machine. The user data base it reflects has users saying yes to removing things that have nothing to do with the app you want to remove.

One of the other automatic ones would probably be better for most users.
Although, not really needed. I installed and uninstalled in the neighborhood of 300 apps the first year with my Mac. It caused no slow downs or any of the other issues you would find with a Windows machine doing the same.
I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.

    AppTrap
+1 for this . It sits unobtrusive in System Pref and you never need to open it, as it is open already. And i have found it does the best job with all those other silly little files that seem to always get left behind ...

    Cheers
