I've purchased the mobile me option, which I thought would allow me to backup all my files from my iMac, however, when I go into it, there are options to backup email/contacts/preferences etc. but I can't see where I can select the data files (e.g. photos/documents etc.) that I want to save.
I thought maybe I could use Time Machine for this, but when I go into set up time machine, the only option for backup seems to be Time Capsule (which I don't have and am not intending to buy). Can anyone help? |

I am not sure whether Time Machine can backup to your Mobile Me account but you are not forced to use it with Time Capsule. It can backup to a hard drive directly connected to your mac or a hard drive attached to either Time capsule or Airport. The drive needs to be formatted HFS+.
Some users are also able to backup to SMB shares but I haven't tried that yet. Time Machine is designed to backup your hard drive and can be used with any external drive for free. The Time Capsule option allows for the Time Machine backups to be maintained wirelessly via WiFi. |
