iPhone Contacts vs. OS X Address Book

- iMac 2.8 GHz i7 16GB RAM 2TB HDD, Macbook Pro 3.06 Ghz Core Duo 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD
Why is it that the iPhone can connect to and sync with multiple Google Apps Contacts accounts, and the Mac OS X address book cannot?
Seems like it should be a simple upgrade?
Are we ever going to be able to have simultaneous sync of contacts with multiple Google accounts or not? Seems like people have only been asking for it forever...
Why no response from either Google or Apple?
