quite a while back, I used Vmware fusion to install windows on my mac. I also created a bootcamp partition in the process because I didnt really know what I was doing. Anyway, I have no further use for windows and uninstalled vmware fusion and deleted the virtual machines folder. When I open up bootcamp assistant from the utilities folder and try to continue to get where I can delete the partition, I get the following message: The startup disk must be formatted as a single mac os extended (journaled) volume or already partitioned by boot camp assistant for installing windows. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I am trying to go back to a single disk volume using boot camp assistant. I tried following the steps in the guide you posted in your comment, but the problem is I get that error message in my previous post when I open up boot camp assitant and hit continue. I am using a macbook with mac osx v10.5 and bootcamp 2.0. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Ok well im a little lost to help any further as i have never had the need for a virtual machine on my Mac so have never needed to get the partition back.
Not sure if it will help, (wont hurt trying) but try repairing permissions via Disk Utility then log out then in again and try it again.
Might be as simple as your system Repairing some permissions that are stopping the process for you ...
Apart from that im at a loss as i have only used Disk Utility to make partitions or get them back, with the beauty of not loosing any data .... Sorry couldnt be of any more help

Cheers

Thanks for replying! I don't know what is wrong with it. Sadly, it has never been the same since I installed windows on it, haha. I guess thats what I get for double dipping operating systems

Let's try this instead of using the Boot Camp Assistant:

First, make a backup of your hard drive. Use Time Machine to backup to an external drive.

Boot your machine with your install DVD. (Hold down C key when you hear the POST chime) After the machine boots to the DVD, (will take awhile) do not allow the install procedure to continue. Instead, click on the top menu item "Utilities" and then select "Disk Utility".

Now highlight your drive on the left side. (The top label not the bottom) Now select the "partition" tab on the right side. Select the "Boot Camp" partition and then select "erase". Click the apply button.

After that finishes, use your mouse to drag the partition line upward or downward to encompass the entire drive. In other words, to make one partition. Select apply. (This procedure will not destroy data or disturb your OS X partition)

OK you're way out and reboot. Let us know how it went.
