This might seem like a dumb question.
Does anyone here use spaces? I've been a Mac user for nearly three years, and since it's release I've never used spaces and don't understand why it would be handy. Any insight?

I'm a student and I use it pretty often. It comes in handy for multi-tasking, especially as a musician.

I'll keep my social stuff in one space (Facebook, Twitter, iTunes, Email, iCal), usually a Library Database in another, Resources I'm using outside of the Library in another, and whatever document I'm working on in the 4th. I personally love spaces.

You can use it as an multitasking organization tool. For example a work setup, and then switch to another space where you are doing research.

Less clutter all on one screen.

i understand were you coming from i used to think it was stupid ad hard to use but i found two tweaks that make it more tolerable to use, hyperspace and warp, ive been a mac user for years and i still think apple has a long way to go to make spaces easier to manipulate, fortunately there are third party apps like those

Spaces for me is one of the best features of OS X, it means that I can compartmentalise how I work; not having distractions on the desktop. My email can be open on one space, iTunes on another, and I can be working distraction free on a third... I use 9 spaces frequently!

I assign certain apps to open in certain spaces. For notebook users who like to have more than 1 or 2 programs open, Spaces is a godsend.

(as a best practice, I try not to have a lot programs open, but sometimes it's necessary)

For keyboard usage of Spaces, I set it to Command-Arrow Key.

I don't have a shortcut for seeing all six spaces on my MacBook. I find it easier to Cmd-Arrow Key through them.

Of course, if you have the same window open in two different Spaces...

I never found spaces hard to use, I just never found it very handy either. Glad you guys find it useful. Might try the assigning app to certain spaces and see if I like it.
