I am having Safari 5.x on MAC 10.6
CAn i downgrade the Safari version to 4.x?

If not how can i change my safari browser to version 4

Any particular reason that you wish to have Safari 4 on your machine over Safari 5? Downgrading can be problematic but you can download it here if you'd like to try. You'll likely run into an error saying that you have a newer version installed and you won't be able to continue the install.

i need safari 4 for testing.
whether it is possible to delete safari 5 and install safari 4

If so how i need to uninstall Safari 5.x

I downloaded the pacifier and Safari 4.0.5 and done the installation as per the guide.
but when i tried to open the Safari browser by clicking on the Safari in the Application its not opening.


My Safari version is showing as Safari 4.0.5 only

I'm a little confused. You say that it isn't opening but you also say that Safari is showing that it's version 4.0.5 (implying that it opened).

That info is available with Get Info.

I'd like to come in on this thread with a similar situation. I have Tiger OS and Safari 4.1.1. I want to revert to v 4.1 because it worked better.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, the "later version already installed" warning arises from the receipts. If not there, it may be in preferences.

My suggestion - and I confess I haven't yet tried it - is to search receipts and preferences, trash any Safari ones, also the application. Reboot, and then see what happens when you try to install an earlier version of Safari.

The Archive & Install method of dealing with the issue is, to my mind, pretty drastic. I certainly don't want to go that far, I'd rather put up with Safari 4.1.1.
