Hello every1,

so I'd like to give a shot at clamshell-mode and start using an external keyboard with my MacBook Pro along with an external monitor.

The slight problem is that I want to use a Logitech keyboard. Now, remapping keys like option and command is no problem, it can be done from the keyboard pref pane for a specific keyboard even. But what about the fn key and associated F-keys? The functions on the F-keys don't get picked up no matter what the settings are (I mean specifying wether or not use the fn key to activate those functions).

This doesn't really come as a surprise to me, so what I'd like to ask is for feedback on some key remapping software I could use. More importantly software that would only affect the external keyboard. Any good/bad experience?

I googled KeyRemap4MacBook, any thoughts on that?

Thanks for chipping in.

You can give DoubleCommand a try to see if it'll work on an external keyboard or not. Since it's free, you've nothing to lose.

I use my machine in clamshell mode while I'm at home but I have full sized Apple aluminum keyboard with numeric pad.

Regards.

Thank you chsag, I came across DoubleCommand as well, but it offers a very specific list of features, most of which I think are completely useless, I mean why in the world would I need the enter key to act as option? Or caps as control?

KeyRemap4MacBook lists something along the lines of using an external keyboard so I guess I might give that a try ... it's just I've never heard of the application, looking for ideas is all.

As for the Apple full sized keyboard, I worked with it briefly, but I found it didn't suit me very well - not sure why since I love my built-in MacBook keyboard and they are almost identical.
