ichat stopped recognizing isight

i've never had this problem for the 6 months i've owned this computer but about an hour ago, ichat no longer recognizes my macbook pro's built in isight. instead of the camera icon, i get the phone icon and in preferences i get the message "this computer does not support video chats." even though its a macbook pro. i tested the web cam in photo booth and it worked. i've both restarted ichat and restarted my mbp. neither worked. the only other program i have on this computer that uses a web cam is a video conferencing app called oovoo and it works with that. any help on this issue would appreciated.
