Help me run TF2 ? (MACBOOK PRO)

i just downloaded TF2 as it just got released on steam however its running SO slow! I used to play it on a windows partition and it used to run fine then all of a sudden started to run a bit worse just as i stopped playing and deleted my windows partition.

I have no idea why it runs so slow to the point where online i can't see anyone, there is no sound and its just stupidly low fps!

Anyone know anything i can do? i have a 2-3 year old macbook pro:

2.2 GHZ intel core 2 duo processor
    2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT graphics card

i know it runs fine on these specs and they are above the minimum requirements! but the game just runs so bad!
