    Specs:
    27" 3.4 Ghz i7 iMac-13" C2D Macbook-OSX 10.10.2 -64Gb iPad 2-64 Gb iPhone 6+-ATV 2-14Tb of Storage
Use an app like Quicktime Pro or Handbrake to convert them to a format that your Mac can read.

What is the source of these files?

I use Flip4Mac for WMVs, didn't have a problem with it yet.

Good question since the OP stated that they "downloaded tv series".

Where did you get the video files from? Methinks these are not reputable files.

Just download and use "VLC Media Player" for OSX, it will play ANY format you throw at it and much smoother than Quicktime ever thought of being.
