How to view the desktop without exiting from a game

On a PC using alt-tab would bring you out of a game- but not closing it. How could i do the same with a mac because I've been trying the tab and ~/` buttons comboed with control alt/option and the other one

Thanks also any other useful hotkey's are useful
i know the alt-tab and alt ~/` <-- very useful and copy, paste, force quit but thats it.

Mac Specs: Mac Pro 8x3.0ghz 12gb ram 8800GT , MBP 2.16 2GB Ram 17 inch.

PowerBookG4 is offline
in my experience, apple tab works with all programs but games. I don't know why it doesn't work in game, just my expeirence, somebody else here will probably be able to help you

you could use exposé or command (apple) and H it will hode the current window9 place it in ur dock)
