Mac Specs: 17 inch 2 GHz C2D imac (5,1) with 3GB DDR2 RAM, X1600 (128MB memory) GPU - OSX 10.6.3

the8thark is offline
Play 5.1 audio in iTunes | iPod & Entertainment | Mac 911 | Macworld

It's not a straight forward method but the people who wrote the article say it seems to work.

It does work… been using it on my Mac mini HTPC, though I now just use Plex, which bypasses the need for Perian.

One thing I should point out about videos from the iTunes store that have 5.1 audio tracks… those tracks are actually disabled and only are usable on an Apple TV. I kid you not.


Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).
