i cannot play .avi files with perian(1.2). it used to work but now it says quicktime cannot play these types of files. vlc works to do it but i rather have a quicktime plugin than an entire application taking up space in my harddrive. anyone else have this problem? this is really annoying meMac specs: late 2009 MBP 15 inch 2.53ghz 4gb Ram 320 gb HDD, 32 gb iphone 3gs white, 16 gb iphone 2g

Are you using Snow Leopard? (you didn't say....) Snow Leopard installs Quicktime Player 10 which does not work the same as Quicktime Player 7.
However, unless you removed it, the Quicktime Player 7 app is still there but it's now located under Utilities and does not come up by default.
Also, what's wrong with using VLC? As large as hard drives are nowadays, how much space could it possibly be taking up?
