I've been having a continual problem with my Mac OS X: In the last few days I've been trying to open Microsoft Word (either by opening the app or by opening word docs) and it starts to open, suddenly quits, and shows me this message:
"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then, I click the box where it says "recover my work and restart Microsoft Word" but the exact same thing happens. I've reported the problem, but nothing is working. Here's what I get when I go to more information-- (PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP) Microsoft Error Reporting log version: 2.0 Error Signature: Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS Date/Time: 2010-01-05 22:50:36 -0500 Application Name: Microsoft Word Application Bundle ID: com.microsoft.Word Application Signature: MSWD Application Version: 12.2.3.091001 Crashed Module Name: CoreFoundation Crashed Module Version: unknown Crashed Module Offset: 0x00075354 Blame Module Name: CoreFoundation Blame Module Version: unknown Blame Module Offset: 0x00075354 Application LCID: 1033 Extra app info: Reg=en Loc=0x0409 Thread 0 crashed: # 1 0x96963354 in .objc_class_name___NSCFSet + 0x96818414 (CoreFoundation + 0x00075354) # 2 0x01746423 in _McpRegisterOPImageReader + 0x000005F1 (MicrosoftComponentPlugin + 0x0015e423) # 3 0x017476a3 in _McpRegisterOPImageReader + 0x00001871 (MicrosoftComponentPlugin + 0x0015f6a3) Thread 1: # 1 0x950073a6 in _signgam + 0x94E60482 (libSystem.B.dylib + 0x000013a6) Operating System Information Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Build 9L31a) CPU: Intel Core Duo, Number: 2, Speed: 1800 MHz gestaltPhysicalRAMSize err = 0, result = 2047 MB gestaltSystemVersion err = 0, result = 0x1058 Screen: 1280 x 800, depth = 32, ltbr = 0, 0, 800, 1280 Microsoft Application Information: Error Reporting UUID: E8F7E495-33E6-4068-B05D-516090199141 Time from launch: 0 hours, 0 minutes, 4 seconds Total errors on this client: 20 |

Trash the MS Word preference for starters. It's found at User > Library > Preferences > com.microsoft.Word.plist. Then, a) reboot your computer and b) try reopening MS Word app (not any saved docs).
If that hasn't restored MS Word function, try the repair permissions process, preferably using Onyx http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html. Do you have the MS Office install disks? If so, try a reinstallation, but FIRST, you must uninstall, using the application bundled in the MS Office (Remove Office). Keep us posted as to progress (or otherwise). ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Please post your Mac (or other) specs and MacOS version in your post, your profile or your signature. It helps us to help you better. I'm leaving now to go and find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait.

Did you at some stage try to delete MS Word? This topic has arisen before, ie. "MSW is not working as it should, therefore I'll delete it".
Sorry about that defunct link, there was an issue with it a month or two back, I'm using a different computer at present (see my sig), and the correct one is on my eMac. Try a Google search for Onyx instead. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Please post your Mac (or other) specs and MacOS version in your post, your profile or your signature. It helps us to help you better.
